Speak Up
For this project I wanted to focus on the risks associated with the exercise of free speech. It is increasingly dangerous to voice your opinion or protest policies you don’t agree with. Free speech on the internet is being locked down, tracked, and controlled.
Project overview and objectives | Create a sequential design composition using a series of five pieces. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles and elements of design. Show understanding of color theories and applications.
What I learned | I learned to pace myself and ask for critique early on. I considered the advice and direction of my instructor and found myself in a better position. The parameters for this project were pretty loose, but I set parameters for myself and found that I performed better.
Process | I started with conceptual sketches. Once I had concept sketches I moved to find the right shapes through online images. I found the right shapes and traced them. From there I was able to adjust them and ultimately ended up using the pen tool in Illustrator. The images where adjusted in photoshope and laid in the background with the designed pen tooled shapes laid over the top. Below are some of the traces that were used as the basis of each shape. Each composition could stand on its own, but contributes to a larger picture. I kept in mind the use of directional elements. If you look closely on the first thumbnail above you can see how all elements point to the center to the heart of the message. Side note: I did get 500/500 on this final project for Color and Design.
